I’m so sorry that you had similar experiences with your dad. And for your loss.
I suspect a lot of people are in that limbo— whether facing an illness or not. This world is becoming increasingly more difficult to exist in, and I think a lot of people are incredibly tired. Having glimmers helps… even when you know the outcome isn’t going to be what you want… to have your life sprinkled with little bits of joy makes it more palatable.
Sarah, I can feel the emotional swings in your story. I can sense the laughter, the tears, the smiles, and the fear. I lived through much of what you describe when my father died from cancer almost ten years ago. It was a very difficult time but some wonderful memories were almost made during that battle, memories that we all cling to.
I loved this line: "He was caught in a space of not wanting to fight and not wanting to die. That’s a godawful place to be." It was a line that caught me in the context of your story but also made me wonder how many are caught in that space just trying to live their lives, feeling lost and hopeless, lacking the capacity to step back and realize that it, perhaps, that their circumstances are not quite so bleak.
Thank you so much, Caroline. 🤍 He was quite the character and I’m glad I get to share him. ☺️Thanks for being here. I appreciate it more than I can say. 🤍

Thank you for this lovely comment, Kevin. ☺️
Ah man, ah man, nothing to say
That’s ok. We don’t always have to have to words. ☺️
Love this! So beautiful and personal, thanks for sharing, by the way your dad did a great job raising you!
Awww, Anthony! That’s such a kind thing to say! Thank you!
